Hilton Head timeshare owners and four numbers from ARDA’s new owners report
New national research shows owners are taking their vacations, and loving them
ARDA’s 2026 United States Owners Report found 94% of timeshare owners took a timeshare vacation in 2025, nearly one in 11 Americans now owns a timeshare and more than 90% of owners rate their ownership positively. Here is what each number means, and what it looks like for owners at Royal Dunes on Hilton Head Island.
Hilton Head timeshare owners have always known their week gets used. This summer, national research put numbers behind it. The United States Owners Report: Shared Vacation Ownership, 2026 Edition, published by the ARDA International Foundation and released July 29, 2026, surveyed thousands of U.S. timeshare owners in early 2026 about how they use and feel about their ownership.
Four findings stand out.
94% of owners took a timeshare vacation in 2025

That jump answers the question people most often ask about ownership. Will we actually go? Owners overwhelmingly do.
Part of the reason is simple. When a week already belongs to you, it gets planned. It goes on the calendar early, the family builds around it and there is no searching Hilton Head vacation rentals each spring hoping the right dates are still open at the right rate.
Nearly 1 in 11 Americans owns a timeshare
Ownership is not a niche choice. It is how millions of families have decided to make sure vacation happens every year, with space, consistency and a place they know waiting each time.
More than 90% rate their ownership positively
90%+of owners rate their ownership experience positively
That satisfaction carries across generations. Among the youngest owners surveyed, 94% said they would purchase their timeshare again.
58% of owners are Millennials or Gen Z
58%of timeshare owners are Millennials or Gen Z, and they account for 76% of recent purchases
ARDA’s explanation is one that rings true on Hilton Head. As travelers start bringing children and extended family along, they look for more space, good amenities and a professionally managed resort. That is the same room families look for in a three-bedroom vacation rental, and it is why multigenerational trips work so well in a villa where grandparents, grown kids and grandchildren can all stay together.
What the numbers look like for Hilton Head timeshare owners
At Royal Dunes, owners choose from three seasons. Bronze covers the mild winter weeks, Gold covers spring, fall and the holidays, and Platinum covers summer. Each comes with a three-bedroom villa on an island Condé Nast Traveler readers have voted the top island in the United States nine years in a row.
Many owners come back to the island every year. Others exchange their week through RCI or Interval International, share it with family or use it as an easy beach getaway close to home.
Walk through all the ways owners use their week.
The headline from this year’s research is not really about timeshares. It is about people taking the time away they meant to take. If that has been hard to do in your family, a week that is already yours may be the simplest answer there is.
